How to Set Policy in TrustPort Management Version 3.0

Objective:

Learn how to work with policy in TrustPort Management Version 3.0.

Requirements:

The way how the policy is managed has changed considerably in TrustPort Management version 2.0. TrustPort Management version 1.0 does not contain policy of complete settings but rather only those that are allowed to be changed. Settings for stations or groups are assigned in policy items inherited from their superior group.

The Root group by default contains the basic set of rules that are best to maintain. These rules will be inherited by each subsequent station or group. If you want to set a policy that will applied to all stations, then it is best to set it to this group. The values set for such policy items can of course be changed, but it will not be possible to remove them from the policy.

The next group created during installation is the Unclassified group. This group by default does not contain any policies of its own, but as this group automatically receives all registered stations, it is advisable to create the most restrictive policy. How exactly restrictive these settings will be depends on the administrator. Warning! It is important to realize that after transferring a station to a different group with a less restrictive policy, policy items not present in the new group will not be set for this station, but the settings will also not return to the original values! If in the new group these setting values are not predefined or are not changed by the user, then the restrictive settings will remain.

In addition to these groups it is advisable to define additional groups such as branch, department, workgroups to which stations can be added one by one, ie. add stations with similar logic to units requiring the same properties to be set. This allows to not only control their settings by using a common policy but also helps in planning tasks, commands and the like for such stations.

The rules for the correct management of policy is described in detail in Policy tab.
