List of new and modified features of previous products version 2.0
Differences and Changes from Version 1.0
-
Reorganized policy system. Policies that are set for station or groups have been restructured. Policies have also been changed in the way they are applied and the set of which ones need to be set for a station has been redefined.
-
The updates tab has been renamed and is now found as "tasks". This is because the name "tasks" better describes this activity.
-
The "tasks" tab is now better structured. The user can select from the pull-down menu the activity he wants to perform and only that task and its required fields are then displayed in the central console pane. The task for executing applications has been renamed to "Download and execute application" and a task for running applications from their current locations was created called "Execute command/application" . Furthermore, the new tasks "Install TrustPort PC Security", "Install TrustPort PC Security components", "Import license key", "Uninstall TrustPort PC Security components" and "Perform Trustport Antivirus Scan" have been added.
-
The "commands" menu pane is also now better structured, in a similar style as the "tasks" tab. The "Execute command on stations" command now allows executed commands to operate either under a defined user account or under the current rights of the logged in user. The "Install TrustPort PC Security", "Install TrustPort PC Security components", "Services" and "Restart TrustPort Management agent" commands have been added.
-
The stored settings of the complete TrustPort Management application have been reworked so that in critical situations these settings cannot be lost.
-
Logging on to the TrustPort Management has been reworked concerning the selection of the appropriate server for logging in and registration. There are currently two methods to do this. The first is done by logging on to the server using a predefined server IP address and the second method uses autodetection (the Discovery service). Logging on by way of a predefined IP address is available and is usually the preferred course of action.
-
Changing the log-in details for the execute commands and network access accounts no longer requires a station restart, this can be accomplished by synchronizing the station with the server. A new account for remote installation of the client has been added.
-
Every newly installed application that can be administered by TrustPort Management will supply the server with current information about its status on synchronizing the server with the client. This allows administrators the opportunity to know right away the success of the installation so that they will not need to wait until the station logs on again such as after a restart or starting the computer.
-
The searching module used to locate stations capable of being administered by TrustPort Management has been improved and strengthened. Specifically, it has been given greater stability and performance.
-
The panes of the management console have been rearranged, clearing up the individual panes.
-
The installation process has been adjusted to allow upgrading from version 1.0 to version 2.0.
New Features of Version 2.0:
-
The ability to perform a "push" remote installation of the TrustPort Management client has been added. Searching for stations can be performed manually by supplying an address range, combing the network, finding respondents to a "ping", checking connections and by combining that with "pinging".
-
On top of the possibility to use commonly set user accounts to access the network and execute commands for all stations connected to TrustPort Management, it is also now possible to define individual accounts for each station. This, for example, can be used for stations that are not part of a domain.
-
It is now easier to distinguish the priority levels of alerts due to the graphic icons they now display. Individual alert messages can be clicked on to view the full details of the alert.
-
In the lower part of each pane of the console, clickable tips have been supplied providing important information about items in the pane and directions on how to use them. In addition, it is possible to display a tip for each policy item that explains exactly how to use the given one.
-
Every station under TrustPort Management can be promoted to a so-called superagent, meaning that station will serve to distribute virus definitions to surrounding stations. TrustPort Antivirus running on a station will query the local agent (proxy) about where it should obtain its update from. This agent will point it to which superagent it should use or whether it should download from the server directly. This mechanism lightens the load on the server, which will create a mirror of these virus definitions on the given superagents.
-
A technique has been added called time-shaking, created to distribute the load placed on the server when synchronizing stations with it over a set period of time.
-
All components/applications of the TrustPort PC Security suite can now be administered using TrustPort Management.
-
A new feature has been added allowing specified tasks set under the execute applications user account to be carried out without being connected to the TrustPort Management server. The type of situation when such a feature would be used does not involve stations, but such as notebooks, that are at that moment not covered by the TrustPort Management server, and therefore cannot determine the log-in details of the execute applications account but have a scheduled task that must be fulfilled.
-
Important operations and activities performed by TrustPort Management are now written to alerts.
-
When opening the management console for the first time, the pane for configuring user account information is displayed. These accounts are network access, executing applications and remote installations. These account log-in details can be changed at any time in the future. These accounts must be filled in to assure the correct operation of TrustPort Management, and therefore it is not possible to navigate in the console further until these accounts have been setup.
-
The passwords for both initial user accounts to access the TrustPort Management console are necessary to enter during program installation. These passwords must be quite strong.
-
Stations will currently be registered automatically to TrustPort Management upon their successful installation. It is possible to deactivate this property and manually confirm registration requests. After a station is allowed to register the station will receive information that it is now registered. This speeds up the activation of stations in TrustPort Management.
-
A module has been added that allows tasks run under Scheduled Tasks of the Windows system to be managed. This is used to create mirrors of virus definition files on the server and on superagents. This module allows the creation, modification and deletion of such tasks.
-
The user guide has been expanded to contain details about the new features. The guide now includes detailed step-by-step procedures for accomplishing regularly performed activities, called Recommended Procedures. These procedures help less experienced users carry out even complicated tasks.
-
If the TrustPort PC Security installer needs to perform a system restart, then this can be performed by TrustPort Management after receiving confirmation from the user.
